CanadaOn Friday, Marc Miller, the federal Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, announced a series of measures aimed at strengthening Canada’s International Student Program and providing enhanced protection to genuine students against fraudulent activities.
Among these Steps are the Following
Starting on December 1st, post-secondary designated learning institutes (DLI) will be required to directly verify every applicant’s acceptance letter with the IRCC. This enhanced verification process aims to protect prospective students from the risks of acceptance letter forgery. With the implementation of this system, students can be confident that they will avoid the daunting obstacles encountered by their peers last year due to fraudulent activities. Additionally, it will guarantee that only legitimate letters of acceptance will be used to grant study visas.
Miller stated that in order for Canada to continue to benefit from the substantial social, cultural, and economic contributions made by international students, the government must resolve issues pertaining to the legitimacy of the international student program.
He continued by saying that by detecting each phony acceptance letter as soon as it is submitted, the government is taking action against dishonest actors who have preyed on legitimate applicants for financial gain.
Reputable universities that show a strong commitment to accommodating international students will be given preference when processing applications, and the government will be better equipped to identify and hold on to the students who will best contribute to Canada’s immigration and economic objectives.
According to Miller, these significant modifications represent the first adjustments found during the assessment of the International Student Program and the more comprehensive engagement project, An Immigration System for Canada’s Future. This involves the government’s continuous efforts to better detect fraud and protect the integrity of the immigration programs through collaboration with institutions, provinces and territories, and organizations that represent Canadian colleges and universities.
International students are brilliant, talented, and deserving of a good experience while they pursue their education in Canada, according to Miller. Canada’s program for international students will be further enhanced by safeguarding students and removing those who attempt to exploit them. We desire an international student’s time as a student in our program, regardless of whether they return home or stay and work after graduation.
